Among Obama's many lies to the American people, is how bin Laden died the biggest?

INVESTIGATIVE reporter Seymour Hersh has charged in the London
Review of Books that the White House narrative of the May 2, 2011, killing
of the al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan, is
largely “false.”
In a 10,000-word account, Hersh wrote that when bin Laden was slain by
U.S. Navy Seals he had been a prisoner of Pakistan’s Inter-Services
Intelligence agency(ISI) since 2006 and that top Pakistani military officials
knew of the raid in advance and were complicit in bin Laden’s execution
by removing their guards from his compound and ensuring airspace
access for attacking U.S. helicopters.
President Obama said bin Laden and two of his men were killed in the
firefight during the raid, as well as a bin Laden wife used as a human
shield. He added that “no Americans were harmed.” (It’s a rather strange
“firefight” when all the dead and wounded are on one side.)
Moreover, the idea that bin Laden was killed when he resisted the assault
force, suggests that the ISI guards allowed their prisoner and his aides to
have weapons, also dubious. And the U.S. claim that Obama was not an
ISI captive is undercut by the location of bin Laden’s compound, in a
Pakistan military and intelligence community.
ISI was holding bin Laden hostage, threatening Taliban and al-Qaida
leadership with turning him over to the U.S. if they ran operations contrary
to ISI interests, Hersh said.
“Some of the Seals were appalled later at the White House’s initial
insistence that they had shot bin Laden in self-defense,” a Hersh source
told him. “Six of the Seals’ finest, most experienced NCOs, faced with an
unarmed elderly civilian, had to kill him in self-defense?” the source
scoffed.
Hersh pointed out that “The White House press corps was told in a
briefing shortly after Obama’s announcement that the death of bin Laden
was ‘the culmination of years of careful and highly advanced intelligence
work,'” when, in fact, the U.S. learned of his whereabouts from a walk-in
informer. This man was an ex-Pakistani intelligence officer “who betrayed
the secret in return for much of the $25 million reward offered by the
U.S…”
Then there’s the matter of Obama’s alleged burial at sea. Although Rear
Admiral Charles Gaouette said the funeral service followed “traditional
procedures for Islamic burial,” Hersh pointed out “there was no indication
of who washed and wrapped the body, or of which Arabic speaker
conducted the service.”
What’s more, the Navy refused to make the carrier’s log of daily events
available to reporters and skipper Bruce Lindsey told them he was unable
to discuss the burial. And Rear Admiral Samuel Perez, commander of the
carrier group’s strike force, told reporters “the crew had been ordered not
to talk about the burial.” Sound a bit fishy? Maybe that’s because two
“longtime consultants” to Special Operations Command(SOC) told
Hersh,”the funeral aboard the Carl Vinson didn’t take place.”
Over and again, we find the Administration ordering its officials not to talk
about the raid. As Hersh pointed out, every member of the Seals hit team
and some members of the Joint SOC leadership “were presented with a
nondisclosure form drafted by the White House’s legal office; it promised
civil penalties and a lawsuit for anyone who discussed the mission, in
public or private.”
Readers attempting to decide which account of bin Laden’s death to
believe might also consider that the Administration shifted its story on key
points.
“Within days (of the raid),” Hersh said, “some of the early exaggerations
and distortions had become obvious and the Pentagon issued a series of
clarifying statements. No, bin Laden was not armed when he was shot
and killed. And no, bin Laden did not use one of his wives as a shield.” The
fact that bin Laden had no weapons adds strength to the argument he was
an ISI prisoner, not a free man shielded by guards bristling with guns.
White House National Security spokesman Ned Price, brushed off the
Hersh article with, “There are too many inaccuracies and baseless
assertions in this piece to fact check each one.” (So how many did he fact
check?) And a CIA official dismissed the Hersh account as “utter
nonsense.” (This from an agency with a track record for lying stretching
from Viet Nam to Iraq.)
In point of fact, while Obama has built a reputation for lying and breaking
his promises, Hersh has a reputation for honesty and repertorial
excellence. He won a Pulitzer Prize for breaking the My Lai massacre
story in 1969. He’s also won two National Magazine awards and five
coveted Polk awards. Plus UK’s prestigious George Orwell Award for
political writing.
By contrast, numerous observers have concluded that President Obama
lies systematically to the public. Attorney John Whitehead, President of the
non-profit Rutherford Institute, of Charlottesville, Va., a defender of civil
liberties, writes:
“When it comes to the NSA, Obama has been lying to the American people
for quite some time now. There was the time he claimed the secret FISA
court is ‘transparent.’ Then he insisted that ‘we don’t have a domestic
spying program.’ And then, to top it all off, he actually insisted there was
no evidence the NSA was ‘actually abusing’ its power.”
Pacifist writer David Swanson, author of “War No More: The Case for
Abolition,” found no fewer than 45 lies in Obama’s September 24, 2013,
speech to the United Nations. Just one example: Obama said, “we have …
worked to end a decade of war.”
To the contrary, Swanson says, “Obama expanded the war on
Afghanistan. Obama expanded… drone wars. Obama has increased global
U.S. troop presence, global U.S. weapons sales, and the size of the
world’s largest military. He’s put ‘special’ forces into many countries,
waged a war on Libya, and pushed for an attack on Syria. How does all of
this ‘end a decade of war’?”
We also need to consider how much Obama had to gain if he could show
voters he could “get” bin Laden. In his 2012 re-election bid, the Obama
campaign milked the bin Laden slaying for all it was worth, even making a
video narrated by actor Tom Hanks about it. The “Huffington Post’s” Ben
Feller at the time wrote an article headlined, “Obama Campaign Using
Osama Bin Laden Killing As 2012 Campaign Tool.”
If the Hersh account is accurate, and bin Laden was unarmed, it begs the
larger question of why the Pentagon ordered an elite unit to assault his
compound with guns blazing when he could have been taken prisoner?
Isn’t there a question or two the American people might have liked to ask
bin Laden about the 9/11 massacre?
In retrospect, the Obama White House achieved its goals. President
Obama improved his re-election chances by killing bin Laden rather than
bringing him to justice, even if he had to stamp out the truth to do it. In the
process, he fixed things so the Seals can’t talk, the sailors can’t talk, the
admirals can’t talk and, above all, Osama bin Laden can’t talk.

Open 2015.Tiger woods says his on the right track

US Open 2015: Tiger Woods says he is on 'the right track'
19 Jun
"I couldn't grind out any harder than that. So that's just the way I played and
unfortunately it was a high number."
US Open
Venue: Chambers Bay, Washington Dates: 18-21 June
Coverage: Live commentary on the final two rounds on BBC Radio 5 live
Saturday and Sunday 22:00-03:00. Live text updates from 19:00 BST of
every round on the BBC Sport website. Read full details here
Three-time winner Tiger Woods says he is lacking consistency and is still
rusty following back surgery after making a "tough" start to the US Open.
Woods, 39, shot a 10-over-par 80 in the first round at Chambers Bay, and is
already 15 shots behind the leaders.
"It's one of those things, I've just got to work through it," the former world
number one said.

"I'm trying as hard as I can to do it, I just can't get the consistency that I'd like

to have out there."

Analysis: Iain Carter, BBC Sport golf correspondent

"Woods looked utterly lost from the moment he struck a horrible second

shot into the rough at the first. He dropped four shots in his first six holes,

his club flew from his hands as he hacked from the rough on the eighth and

he racked up a triple bogey at the 14th.At the last he embarrassingly topped

his second shot on route to the 80 - his second worst round in a major. It's

being suggested he should take yet another break from the game and

Woods ability to compete again at the highest level is increasingly open to

question."

Fourteen-time major winner Woods registered a triple bogey on the 14th and

is well behind leaders Dustin Johnson of America and Sweden's Henrik

Stenson who are on five under.

Only Rich Berberian Jr, a club professional playing in his first US Open, and

Rickie Fowler had worse rounds.

A birdie at the 16th was the lone bright spot before Woods finished with a

bogey to leave him tied 152nd, one shot clear of Fowler and three in front of

Berberian.

Woods has been hampered by a back problem for some time.

The American missed the 2014 Masters, a competition he has won four times,

after having surgery on a pinched nerve in his back before withdrawing from

the 2014 US Open.

Woods also withdrew from the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in

February because of it.

"I haven't played enough. I haven't had a rhythm to my play," added the 2000,

2002 and 2008 US Open winner.

"I didn't play much last year and I haven't played much this year. Knee

surgeries are pretty easy compared to a back surgery and, for some reason,

it's just a lot harder dealing with a nerve than a joint."

Asked if he was on the right track, Woods added: "Yeah, I am, I am. I know

when I do it right, it's so easy.

"I just need to do it more often and build from there.

Woods by numbers

15 - shots off the lead. 195 - current world ranking.

9 - bogeys or worse, including

a triple-bogey seven on the

14th.

27 - majors played since Woods won the

last of his 14 in 2008.

152 - round leaves him in a tie

for 152nd place, with only two

players having fared worse on

day one.

81 - Woods' worst round at a major, at the

Open Championship in 2002.

105 - width of the 13th

fairway at Chambers Bay in

yards, the widest in US Open

history; Woods missed it.

302 - worst four-round total of his career,

which also included a career-worst 85,

recorded on his last outing at the Memorial

Tournament earlier this month.

"I've gone through tough phases before and I've come out OK on the other

side."

Woods, without a major title since his US Open victory seven years ago at

Torrey Pines, added: "I fought, I fought hard.

"I couldn't grind out any harder than that. So that's just the way I played and

unfortunately it was a high number."

Despite his round, Woods was still able to find a bit of humour in his

performance.

"The bright side is at least I kicked Rickie's [Fowler] butt," he joked.

ISIS-Related Conspiracy, Knife Attack on FBI Agent: Court Papers

ISIS-Related Conspiracy, Knife Attack on FBI Agent: Court Papers

The FBI-NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force arrested a 21-year-old Staten Island man who allegedly repeatedly tried to stab an FBI agent with a kitchen knife Wednesday as officers attempted to search his home in connection with an ongoing ISIS-related investigation involving a Queens college student arrested over the weekend, according to court documents.
Fareed Mumuni was charged Wednesday with attempting to murder an FBI agent, though no serious injuries were reported in the scuffle, conspiring to provide material support to ISIS and trying to assist the terror group in carrying out an attack in the New York area, according to the complaint.

FIFTH man arrested on suspicion of plotting UK terror attack

Fifth Terrorist Arrest
Threat: The authorities say they have disrupted a 'significant plot'
A fifth man has been arrested in connection with an alleged terror plot targeting the UK.
It comes after four other men were seized in dawn police swoops on Tuesday - including an Islamic State veteran.
All have been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under the Terrorism Act.
Officers have been granted a custody extension until next Tuesday, October 14, to question the men arrested on Tuesday, all of who are aged between 20 and 21.
Counter-terror officers believe the raids were an "early disruption" of what could have turned into a "significant plot".
Targeted: One of the men is said to have trained at an ISIS camp
At least one of the four suspects arrested earlier in London is thought to have trained with ISIS and returned to the UK after fighting on the Syrian killing fields.
Dozens of IS fighters are thought to have been stopped at the border as they attempt to return to the UK but this person is understood to have gone home and remained under surveillance.
The men were held by counter terror police and assisted by armed officers who tasered one during the the early morning raids.
A number of residential addresses and vehicles were searched by specialist officers in west and central London as part of the investigation.
The ISIS suspect was taken in West London and armed police were at at least one of the raids.

Much of the focus of MI5’s battle against Islamic extremism has switched to West and East London after a number of successful counter-terror operations in North London.
British police arrested 11 people last month in other Islamist-related operations.
It was not immediately clear if the various investigations were connected.
A Scotland Yard statement said: “These arrests and searches are part of an ongoing investigation into Islamist-related terrorism.”
In August the Security Service pushed up the UK’s threat level warning about international terrorism - like that from Islamic extremism - to “severe” meaning an attack is “highly likely.”
The level had until then been set at “substantial” for more than a year - even though the sudden increased alert status was recently said not to be related to a particular plot.
On social media British jihadists fighting in Syria have threatened to launch a terror attack in Britain in a mark of retribution against UK airstrikes in Iraq.
They claim the attack would parallel the 7/7 London bombings and beheading of soldier Lee Rigby.
Reacting to RAF missions that have struck Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants, vehicles, and positions, a British jihadist based in the Middle East delivered an in-depth interview via social media on Wednesday.
He said that those who have travelled to war-torn Syria to fight in the region could potentially return to conduct attacks in Britain.
The message said: “Tell the Brit govt to withdraw unless they want the days of 7/7, and Adebolajo [to] become regular days,” he warned, referencing Michael Adebolajo, one of two young men who murdered Rigby in Woolwich last year.

Have we been told the truth about Bin Laden's death?

Have we been told the truth about Bin Laden's death?

A recent controversial account of the death of Osama Bin Laden claims there was a conspiracy at the highest levels of the US and Pakistani government to assassinate him.
I have been investigating al-Qaeda and Bin Laden for the BBC for nearly two decades - a quest which has taken me from the caves of Tora Bora to the high-walled Pakistani compound where he met his bloody end. So is there any truth in this latest theory?
Seymour Hersh, a veteran US investigative journalist, has embarrassed US governments before with revelations about the My Lai massacre in Vietnam and abuses at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.
He laid low for several weeks after a mauling in much of the American press but eventually agreed to speak to me about his article published in the London Review of Books.
Mr Hersh claims that Pakistani intelligence - the ISI - were holding Bin Laden prisoner for nearly six years in the garrison town of Abbottabad and just handed him over to the Americans in a staged raid. According to Mr Hersh the official US account is therefore "a fairytale."
Michael Morell, the deputy director of the CIA who led the intelligence gathering and was in the CIA operations centre on the night of the raid in 2011, gave me his insider's account - and his view of Mr Hersh's theory. "It's rubbish, rubbish, almost every sentence is inaccurate," says Mr Morell.
Pakistani police guard Bin Laden's compound after the raid in 2011.
The CIA's account has always hinged on the courier, an al-Qaeda henchman who they say was tracked over eight years until he led them to Bin Laden's compound.
At the time of his death I revealed on Panorama that the ISI had given the CIA a mobile phone number without knowing its significance and that US surveillance of that number led eventually to the courier. Several CIA analysts and top American officials have testified to the discovery and tracking of the courier.
However Mr Hersh rejects that and says instead that the key figure was an un-named "walk-in" - a retired Pakistani military intelligence officer. He came to the US embassy in Islamabad in August 2010 and told the CIA his country was hiding Bin Laden - in return for much of the $25 million US reward.
Mr Hersh argues that knowledge of Bin Laden's whereabouts went right to the top of the Pakistan army and intelligence service. The CIA rejects this view, saying that the Pakistani top brass did not know.
Media caption Did Pakistan know where Bin Laden was hiding?
There is one other possible explanation however - the murky history of rogue elements within Pakistan's military and intelligence service sympathetic to Islamic militants.

'They were hiding him'

It is possible someone knew about or helped shelter Bin Laden. And it seemed incredible to me when I went to the Abbottabad compound before it was demolished that he could have lived right under the nose of Pakistan's military elite close to the country's military academy.
Carlotta Gall, who reported for the New York Times from Pakistan, supports Mr Hersh's account of knowledge at the top level of the army and intelligence service. She learned from a local source that the ISI had a specific Bin Laden desk run by one man. "They were hiding him and keeping him in some sort of protective custody," she says.
But some respected security experts dispute that and say it is just not plausible that the top levels knew about Bin Laden.
The problem for Mr Hersh is that his account is largely based on one American source, a retired senior intelligence officer in the US government who he does not name. Mr Morell dismisses that, saying this person was never in the meetings he was in - meetings which were completely different to Mr Hersh's account.
Events on the night of the raid to kill Bin Laden still raise questions. He was shot dead within 12 minutes of the first Seals - members of the US Navy's special operations force - landing.
But one of the helicopters crashed, there was shooting and blasting of doors and some Seals were on the ground for 40 minutes.
President Obama and his team following the mission against Bin Laden from the White House Situation Room
Neighbours alerted the local police but they were told to stand down by the Abbottabad army command. So is it possible the Americans warned the Pakistanis at the last minute about a raid on a high-value target - without saying who, and that local authorities turned a blind eye? Some security analysts in Pakistan favour this theory.
One of Mr Hersh's most shocking allegations - that US Navy Seals threw parts of Bin Laden's body out of the helicopter - is not based on speaking to the Seals involved but on access to some of their de-briefings.
Howard Wasdin, a former Seal, knows men who were on the operation. "Mr Hersh is being really irresponsible, dangerous," he told me angrily. "I don't know any Seal with the deviation of character who would consider dismembering another human being."
There is wider scepticism over the official US account that Bin Laden's body was buried at sea. Michael Morell told me he had seen photos and video of the burial but deflected my question whether we would ever see them, saying it was a matter for the White House.
Michael Scheuer, who ran "Alec Station", the special CIA unit which hunted for Bin Laden, believes it was a mistake not to publish pictures of Bin Laden's body and told me "I don't know why they did not do that but secrecy breeds conspiracy theories."
Michael Morell speculates that Mr Hersh may have been peddled a story by the ISI as a way of easing their embarrassment and shame over the American raid.
But Mr Morell concedes there are parts of the US account the world may never be told. "A hundred per cent of the story that's out there is true - but not a hundred per cent of the story is out there," he admits.
Osama Bin Laden's story did not end with his death - it continues to fascinate the world. As long as there are nagging questions and details that still do not add up there is likely to be more speculation about who knew what and when about his life and his killing in that compound.
This World: The Bin Laden Conspiracy? is on BBC Two at 22:00 BST (23:20 BST in Northern Ireland and Wales) on 17 June 2015 and available later via BBC iPlayer.

How to make a solar iPod/iPhone charger -aka MightyMintyBoost

How to make a solar iPod/iPhone charger -aka MightyMintyBoost

FeaturedContest Winner
I wanted a charger for my iPodTouch and the MintyBoost was definitely my first choice. I wanted to take it a bit further and make it not only rechargeable but also solar powered. The other issue is that the iPhone and iPodTouch have large batteries in them and will deplete the two AA batteries in the MintyBoost rather quickly so I wanted to increase the battery power as well. What I really wanted was a MightyMintyBoost!

Apple has sold over 30 million iPodTouch/iPhone units- imagine charging all of them via solar power.... If every iPhone/iPodTouch sold was fully charged every day (averaging the battery capacity) via solar power instead of fossil fuel power we would save approximately 50.644gWh of energy, roughly equivalent to 75,965,625 lbs. of CO2 in the atmosphere per year. Granted that's a best case scenario (assuming you can get enough sunlight per day and approximately 1.5 lbs. CO2 produced per kWh used.) Of course, that doesn't even figure in all the other iPods, cell phones, PDAs, microcontrollers (I use it to power my Arduino projects) and other USB devices that can be powered by this charger- one little solar cell charger may not seem like it can make a difference but add all those millions of devices together and that's a lot of energy!

There are some really nice features about this charger:

It's solar powered!
It's small.
Large battery capacity- 3.7v @2000mAh
On board charger charges via solar, USB or wall wart. Accepts input power from 3.7v to 7v.
Remove the solar cell after charging and you have a nice compact USB power supply.
Unplug the solar cell and use the Velcro to secure the MightyMintyBoost inside a backpack or messenger bag- now plug in a larger solar cell attached to your bag for even faster charging. Using a slightly larger solar cell (6v/250mAh) you can generate enough power to fully charge an iPhone in about 5.5 hours and an iPod Touch in 4 hours.

Building this is really easy and straightforward- it only took me around an hour so follow along and build one for yourself!

Safety note and general disclaimer: Be careful cutting the Altoids tin as it can have some really sharp edges- file them smooth if necessary. Assemble this at your own risk- while it is really easy to build, if you mess something up there is the potential to damage the electronic device you are trying to charge. Be careful in your assembly and soldering work and follow good safety practices. Only use a type of battery charger specifically designed for the type of battery you are using. Please read through the entire Instructable before asking questions- if there are  any questions just ask and I'll help out as best as I can!

The misunderstood world of Linda Ikeji - by Onyeka Nwelue

Award-winning writer Onyeka Nwelue was the one who invited me to Paris for a film festival and I spent some time with him over there. I didn't even know he was using the time to analyze me so he could write this. ..lol. But it's a nice write up and and I wanted to share it here. Read below...
Linda Ikeji is the most powerful blogger in Africa. And the richest! While this may not be earth-shattering breaking news, as most of us already know or at least probably have an idea about, it is still heart-warming to know that a regular Nigerian girl (yes, she is quite regular) can drag herself from virtually nothing to reach the apex of the blogosphere. It is a truly inspiring tale of rags to riches.
It is also not news that a lot of people dislike Linda Ikeji. They read her blog, they swear by the Gospel of Linda Ikeji Blog, but they dislike her.
They dislike her under the usual banner of “there is nothing this person is doing that should make her better than I am.” But she is better than most people because she is different from most people. Linda Ikeji is not some air-headed young lady that leisurely eavesdrops on conversations of the celebrities and the upper class and then shares it with the internet. Linda Ikeji takes blogging more seriously than some medical doctors take medical study. From what I observed when I met her, Linda Ikeji obsesses over her blog like it were piece of art. She dedicates herself so passionately to it that it may seem the blog is a child she nurtures. In a sense, that blog is a child that has grown into a very handsome man.
She told me a story of how Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie had left where she sat and came to her, as a fan, to greet her. “I love what you are doing. I love your blog. My name is Chimamanda Adichie,” she had said to Linda. Linda told me she screamed. She had also nurtured ambitions of meeting Adichie. Now they met, and she didn’t have to jump through any hoops for it to happen.
“Linda Ikeji is a snub.” “Linda Ikeji is this.” “Linda Ikeji is that.” We all have our opinions and perspectives of her. “Linda Ikeji loves money.” Some of us think that, too.
I met Linda Ikeji for the first time at the then Club 10. I was introduced to her by a friend, Ifeanyi Dike. She didn’t snub me. Years later, she could not remember that we met.
Second time, we had agreed to meet at Eko Hotel. We chatted for over 2 hours and went home. She offered to buy me food. I was there when her two smashing sisters – Laura and Sandra – came. I left with a different understanding. It is not her fault that you don’t like her. Some of us can’t deal!
Nigerian writers don’t like Linda Ikeji. Why? Are they disgruntled? What is their problem? Can I safely say I was part of the group that secretly despised her for no reason? We were angry, because we didn’t understand how she could be doing almost same work as us and then, had effrontery to buy a Range Rover. Some would have said ‘men’ give Miss Ikeji money. I had heard different things about how she makes money.
In Paris, I came closer. I saw. I shook my head. I wept for the world that will never ever meet Linda and continue to judge her from afar. Life is not fair.
One particular evening, in her hotel room, at Hilton, one of the most expensive hotels in Paris , Linda almost grabbed my hair in uncontrolled anxiety, because a post she had made on her blog had disappeared. I didn’t quite understand what the fuss was about, but I picked something: this lady is obsessed with her work and she knows what she is doing. She never plays with her source of income.
Linda loves her readers! She claims she doesn’t care – Linda cares too much! She cares too much for everything! Looking back now, in that room, I could say, Linda may not have a very social life, but she has a beautiful life – she has the greatest sisters. They support her. They help her. They share in her joy. And sadness too.
Do I have her permission to share this story? I am not sure. But she shares a lot of things she is not supposed to, and that is part of her appeal. I’m borrowing a leaf from her playbook.
As she told me, on a certain evening, after returning from one of her numerous shopping sprees, she said: “On my 30th birthday, I had N800 left in my account. I spoke to God.”
Linda’s story is like a fairy tale, I tell you. It is like, but it is not. She has had her fair share of turmoil, troubles and hustles. She has faced crushing rejection. She went round Lagos looking for sponsors. Some of those she sought for sponsorships in their offices can’t have access to her anymore. Somehow, she disagrees with my assertions that this is vendetta. She is driven by the will to pay back many people, to succeed.
I kept asking myself questions about Linda as we went to the mall to shop. I followed her everywhere. I wanted to understand her very well. Would there be a room to ask her questions? Linda is this, Linda is that! Sorry, Linda is not all these things we have cooked up in our heads because the Linda Ikeji I spent enough time with in Paris is: hardworking, gentle, reserved, careful with words, pays attention to details and doesn’t eat much. She likes chocolate!
I had seen her jump from beneath her duvet and run straight to her blog in the middle of the night. Just to blog! She is disciplined and hardworking!
Linda is the richest African woman I have met under 40. I have seen! But they are for my eyes, only. I could not stop myself from writing that line!
Now, let me get back to the writers. Linda Ikeji did not just appear from nowhere. Like the rest of us, she had been struggling in the dark city of Lagos, until her wheel of samsara turned. Her tough days prepared her for this glory.
When I started chatting with her via WhatsApp, her profile status said and still says: “I’d Rather Be Self Made.” This will sound funny, but she doesn’t allow people do anything for her. I mustered the courage and asked her to attend the Nollywood Week Paris; saying we would pay for her flight and before I could even add another thing, she asked for the date and said she would love to come, but she would not want us to pay for her. Her honesty and modesty could make you fall in love with her. She said: “Hey. Would love to come. Never been to Paris. Me and my sisters. I’ll take care of the expenses. Flight, hotel, etc.” I paused. This doesn’t happen. She continued, “I don’t travel alone. I hate it. I will take care of myself. I kinda like luxury living when I travel. So, 5 star!”
She booked her First Class flight ticket. She booked herself into Hilton. Linda and her sisters, Laura and Sandra came to Paris!
She shared intimate stories with me and encouraged me to find that one thing that makes me happy, that will also give me money. It is impossible to hang out with Linda and leave without feeling something has been added to your life.
While Sandra and Laura were shying away from eating Nigerian food, Linda wanted it. The last one, I goofed, I got back late with the food and she was not happy, but she ate little and said: “Onyeka, are you not going to eat?” I was going to say no, but then I remembered she had eaten from the plate with those magical fingers, so I said, “I want to eat.”
I took the food and I ate from the same plate where Linda ate from and now, I’m hoping some mystery has been added to my life, too!
Thank you, Linda, for not being what they told me and what I had thought. Thank you, for your realness.

MTV Breaks: 2015 MAMA

Want to Work Behind The Scenes of MAMA 2015?

Last year MTV Breaks launched as a global hunt for the most talented and creative people to come and work with us on the EMA in Scotland. Since then, we've invited you to join us at the Isle of MTV: Malta.

But now it's time for MTV Breaks to touchdown in Africa and bring some of the biggest and most exciting breaks yet. For the first time ever, we're offering you the chance to come and prove yourself at the biggest music event in Africa - the MAMA 2015. We want four of the most talented young people around to come and help us make the best show in Africa, even better.

So who are we looking for? We want:
  • A dancer with the moves and charisma to light up the stage
  • A photographer with a knack for capturing the perfect moment
  • A social media journalist who knows just what MTV Base's audience wants
  • A videographer with the skills to work in the high pressured, live environment
Each winner will get the chance to come to the MAMA 2015, work as part of the MTV team, and get an industry mentor.  You might even see your work on-air! We'll cover travel to the event, and your accommodation – so make sure you're available across the weekend of the 18th of July, and that you've read all terms and conditions.

So, if you think you've got what it takes to be a direct part of this huge show going out from Durban, here's what you need to do to enter… and be quick. The closing date is 17th June.

DANCER
We're looking for our dancer who'll get to show off their moves on stage. To score this life changing opportunity, upload a 15 second clip to Instagram showing us the kind of moves we could expect to see from you in Durban. Hashtag your video with #MAMAdancer and tag @MTVBreaks.

CAMERA PERSON
We're on the hunt for a talented camera person to come and work with the MTV Africa production team to capture content for the What Went Down MAMA 2015 documentary.  To score this opportunity, upload a 15 second clip to Instagram that best showcases your camera skills with the hashtag #MAMAcamera and tag it @MTVBreaks.

PHOTOGRAPHER
As our photographer, you'll represent MTV Base on the red carpet, snapping the images to be used for MTV's associated Africa platforms. To prove to us that you're the best person for this job, capture an awesome action shot and upload it to Instagram with the hashtag #MAMAphotographer and tagged @MTVBreaks.

SOCIAL MEDIA JOURNALIST
We're searching for someone to be the voice of MTV and MTV Base across our social media platforms during the MAMA 2015. To show us that you've got what it takes, tweet a commentary to either your favourite MTV music video or MTV show. We want to see at least five tweets about it, so we can get a taste of your creative style. Hashtag every tweet #MTVBreaks and #SM.

If you've got the talent, MTV and the MAMA 2015 might just have your break! Visit the 2015 MAMA website HERE.
